Parc Monceau is a pleasurable garden situated 5 minutes walk from the Hôtel Champs-Elysées Friedland.
It is one of the most aristocratic gardens in Paris, but also a great place to go for a stroll and for children to play.
The former estate of the Duke of Chartres, the garden was confiscated during the Revolution and became national property in 1793. During the Restoration, it then became the property of the family of Orleans. In 1860, the city of Paris bought back the garden: one part is sold to the financier Pereire as a building plot; whilst the other was landscaped by Jean-Charles Alphand. The railings are by Davioud Gabriel.
The park features a rotunda; and at the bend by the copse, there are marble statues of writers and musicians such as Guy de Maupassant and Chopin. Located between the 8th and the 17th district of Paris, the park is surrounded by luxury buildings and private mansions directly overlooking the park. Claude Monet painted a picture of the park in 1876.
Opening and Closing times:
7:00 to 22:00 (summer).
7:00 to 20:00 (winter).
